G. Valentina

Abstract

Social Development of tribalsis still in a questionable status though many privilegesare accorded to the community in a village in terms of schools, hostels, scope for economic activities. Pitiable aspect of this community is that people are not aware of the privileges extended to them by Government of India. Theyare still dependent notwithstanding 70 years of independence and have still not thought and found ways to become independent and self-sustainable. The nagging reason is that they are grouped intocustoms and social evils sinking them into the mire pit of superstitions standing inthe way of their development.Present article is based on a village study research in the state of Karnataka, Gulburga district untaken by the National Institute of Rural Development &Panchayatiraj. The article captures the saga of a small baby girl who is unaware of the uncouth world around her which does not welcome her and is waiting to consume her.
