Dhiraj Kumar

Abstract

Drug addiction is becoming a serious threat in some parts of our country. The major users of these substances lie in states of Punjab and Haryana. The factors that are responsible for this menace, especially in the youth range from social and peer pressure to extential crisis. The secondary reasons include the stressful working conditions for a common person which leads him into the gory alleys of drugs. Also the lack of moral education in formative years leads to this problem. Another reason is Pakistan exporting large amount of drugs through channels. This poses a grave danger to internal as well as external security as proven by the recent Gurdaspur and Pathankot attacks Punjab is the new hub of terrorist activities. If not controlled the addicts due to economic reasons may help foreign powers transfer ammunitions, money etc to create a feeling of tension and insecurity across northern parts of India. Our PM has shown the way in his Mann ki Baat speech and it is time that drug enforcement authority step up and controls the situation with least collateral damage.

India with highest population in the world next to China is facing a huge crisis of Unemployment and large scale poverty leaving youth to indulge in the anti social activities. Studies have shown the rise in the Crime rate, Trafficking and Rapes cases by teenagers is all due to rise in the Drug addiction among the youths. Because of the big Corridors like Golden Triangle for Drugs (Myanmar, Laos and Thailand), Golden Crescent (Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran) the drugs (like Hashish, Heroine) are easily available. The same way western countries Columbia accounts for maximum production
