E-Governance A Challenge for India

Abstract


The emergence of Information and communication Technology (ICT) has provided means for faster and better communication, retrieval of data and utilization of information to its user. The concept of e-governance that had its origins in India during the 1970s,with a focus of development of government application in the importance core areas, such as defense, economic monitoring, planning and deployment. India is a developing country, where literacy level is low and even most of people are living below poverty line, people are not even aware about the benefits of e-Governance activities and people do not use Information and Communication technologies to a much extent, there exist a number of problems to implement e-Governance activities. The present paper is based on secondary data and highlights the main challenges related to the implementation of e-Governance in India.
