Abstract


1914. It involved many nations, some willingly and others unwillingly. All the British colonies of the world called upon to contribute with men, money and material to fill the War demands. India as a part of the British Empire was pushed into the War. The British relied heavily on the Indian Army during the course of the War. In India, about 14,57,000 army men (including 9,85,000 combatants) were mobilised during the War. The Punjab supplied more than one-third of the total number who served.
