Abstract

This paper reviews the latest developments in friction stir welding. In the present article, the effect of friction stir welding (FSW) parameters on the weldability and the characteristics of aluminum alloys, dissimilar metals, are investigated. The mechanical properties of the welds are studied through microhardness distribution and tensile tests. The microstructures are strongly affected by the heat input, while the grain size within the TMAZ decreases with decreasing heat input per unit length during FSW.
