Women’s Empowerment through Panchayati Raj Institutions in Haryana: A Study of Rohtak District

Abstract


The late years of 20th century in India have brought a significant change in the life of woman. However, the Reservation Bill for women in pending in Indian Parliament, nevertheless, reservation for women at grassroots level has shown a remarkable change in their socio-economic and political status in the wake of 21st century. Now the political participation of rural women has increased after the implementation of 73rd Amendment Act in different parts of India. Haryana is a leading state that has ensured reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institution. This proves that gender quota for women in the elected bodies is the only effective very through which all the women can make a statement of equality in politics as well as socio-economic level. Therefore, women’s empowerment has become a buzzard for academician, social activists and political analysists in the present scenario. Today we hear it in workshops, seminars and conferences at regional, national and international levels.
