Determination of Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activities in Ginger

Abstract


According to literature report, ginger rhizomes (ZingiberofficinaleRosc.) has been known to use in Myanmar traditional medicine system in connection with antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer activities. For this study, locally grown ginger (ZingiberofficinaleRosc.) has been chosen. This research aims to investigate the antimicrobial activities of the crude extracts (EtOH, watery and essential oil) from ginger rhizomes (ZingiberofficinaleRosc.). Samples were determined against six strains of microorganisms by agar well diffusion method at Meiktila University. This study also screens the antioxidant activity of crude extracts by free radical scavenging DPPH assay method.
