Abstract

Bentonites are finely dispersed clays, consisting of 30-80% of the minerals of the montmorillonite or beidemite group, possessing high binding ability, absorption and catalytic activity. They are characterized by relative uniformity, sustained strike along a considerable area, and the absence of extraneous material in them. Such valuable varieties of bentonites include clays of the Azkamar deposit. The bentonite clays of this deposit, like all other bentonite clays, have a high absorption capacity. They have a very pronounced ability to cation exchange, like pyelites and permutites.
