The article deals with some problems of discourse theory, including: the differentiation of the concepts "text" and "discourse", the linguistic nature of the term" discourse", the essence of discourse analysis, etc.  The article provides a brief overview of the history of the formation of discourse analysis, and implementation in foreign language studies
