An Appraisal of Groundwater Quality for Drinking and Irrigation Purposes in Tirupur Taluk, Tamil Nadu, India
Abstract
A study was carried out to understand the suitability of groundwater in the Tirupur Taluk of Tirupur District, Tamil Nadu, India. Forty five groundwater samples have been collected from bore wells and dug wells, the samples were analysed by using standard procedures (APHA, 1995). The analyzed parameters were hydrogen ion concentration (pH), electrical conductivity (EC), total hardness (TH), total dissolved solids (TDS) and important cations like Calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), sodium (Na+), potassium (K+) and anions like bicarbonate (HCO3−), Chloride (Cl−), Sulfate (SO42−) and Calcium carbonate (CaCO3). These parameters were compared with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), 1991.
