Abstract


The present paper Split in Idenity in Hayavadana is a study of man’s Quest for perfection within every domain of universal experience, be it of love, friendship, marriage, motherhood or children. It is an attempt to study idea of identity allegorized in a folk tale. It’ll point out how the characters of Girish Karnad behaved from Freudian angel and how their continuous psychical struggle caused a split in their identity. It is an attempt at studying how the desire of completion in the psyche of the female protagonist ruined not only her but it sowed the seed of conflict in future as well.
