Shagufta Suyfan, Mirza Muhammad Zubair Baig

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the representation of Muslim women in Tariq Ali’s novel The Stone Woman in which the writer gives sexual freedomto Muslim women on purpose. The present paper questionsif the writer is truly representing the Muslim society, role of a Muslim woman in it and her rights or appropriating the social transgressions as appropriation for ‘modernized’ Islam. The textual analysis of the novel shows that the writer is toeing the line ofEurocentric approach thatfurthers stereotypical images of Muslim women and misrepresents their sexual life and freedom as transgressive contrary to their religion and society.
