S. GOPI KRISHNAN, S. ANANDH RAJ

Abstract

This research article aims to elaborate the diasporic themes of cultural identity, language as a barrier, alienation, and nostalgia in the lives of the character in The Namesake and especially its main character Gogal Ganguli. Moreover, entities like culture, nationality and belonging which are the main concerns of the characters in the novel and the reasons for their displacement tend to be loose and changeable in a contemporary perspective and a covetous sense of freedom and emancipation from these concepts could be traced the course of the novel.
