A Review of Go Set A Watchman
Abstract
Go Set a Watchman is a novel written by Harper Lee, writer of the American classic To Kill a Mockingbird. It was published on July 14, 2015. According to Amazon, it was the most pre-ordered book since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The title is a Biblical allusion that comes from Isaiah 21:6; “For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth”. The epithet “watchman” refers to Jean Louise Finch’s father, Atticus Finch, whom she sees as the moral compass of Maycomb.
