Abstract

A True Random Number Generator (TRNG) is a piece of electronics that plugs into a computer & produces true random numbers. True random number generators (TRNGs) have become an indispensable component in many cryptographic systems, including PIN or password generation, authentication protocols, key generation, random padding, & nonce generation. We investigate the limitations of the beat frequency detection (BFD)-TRNG when implemented on an FPGA design platform. To overcome the limitations of Beat Frequency Detection based TRNG, we are focusing in this paper is to design improved field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based TRNGs, using purely digital components.
