ICT competency of secondary school teachers- An Analysis

Abstract


In this era, everything can be easily resolved by the help of technology. The teaching learning process has also occupied the assistance of technology for the betterment. The input of technology in teaching can be effective only by the competency of teacher. So this present paper aimed at finding the Information and communication technology (ICT) competencies of secondary school teachers. It focused on mainly three major features like ICT knowledge, skill on ICT and attitude towards use of ICT in teaching learning process. In the present study 87 secondary teacher has been taken as sample. A multistage sampling method was employed in the selection of sample. In this study a descriptive survey method was adopted to understand ICT competency of teachers. The researcher developed the tools like ICT knowledge test, self-perception Scale on ICT Skill to assess ICT competency and an attitude Scale to assess their attitude towards ICT use. In this study the researcher used the statistical techniques like mean value, SD, percentage for analyzing the data. The study revealed that more than half of the teachers (52.48%) has a sound knowledge in ICT. It is also concluded that 58.98% of teachers perceived that they have the skill on ICT and the study also found that, more than half of the teacher (52.26%) have positive attitude towards use of ICT. In this regard this study has found the status on ICT competency of secondary school teachers of Odisha.
