Abstract

A roof over one’s head is a dream that every human being aspires for. While the rich people create palaces for themselves, the poor try to satisfy themselves with a shelter which may be even a plastic tent. Housing is an important sector for the Indian economy and cities are engines for economic growth. Over the past years it has been realised that sustainable housing and urban development are crucial for economic and social well-being of the people. Affordable housing has thus become one of biggest challenges of the present times and with the increasing gap between the demand and supply of housing the government regulations have become a game changer.
