Evaluating the ethical concerns in the use of social Robots for the care of the elderly
Abstract
Social isolation of seniors is a significant concern amongst gerontologists and caregivers alike, and robot care, they believe, would only exacerbate that issue. Once we accept social robots in the care of older people, will there be an enormous pressure to replace human beings by robots in order to reduce costs? This thesis looks at the dichotomous views on social robots for elderly care, from the physical stance to the ethical concerns.
