β-Ketothiolase Homologues in Cupriavidus Necator
Abstract
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) represent a naturally occurring class of biopolyesters composed of (R)-3-hydroxy fatty acids. PHA primarily serves as carbon and energy reserves, produced by numerous bacteria in response to environmental limitation (e.g. lack of macro elements such as phosphorus, nitrogen, trace elements, or lack of oxygen) and the excess supply of carbon sources.
Keywords
Biosynthesis, polyhydroxyalkanoates, β-ketothiolases, copolymers and protein structures
