Frequency of Presenting Sign and Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy and Associated Nerological Problems among Children Reporting In Civil Hospital Karachi

Abstract

Participants and Method: It was a descriptive study, conducted at Pediatrics units of CHK, Karachi. In this study all data was collected by the co-investigators during a period of 10^th June 2016 to 20^th December 2016. 377 individuals were selected on convenient basis and in the end data was analyzed by usingSPSS 20.0 version.

Results: Out of 377 individuals, 263(69.7%) are males and 114 (30.3%) are females. Among them stiff or floppy muscle tone is most common sign and symptom among both males or females with a frequency of 55.5% and 73% being seconded by excessive drooling or difficulty in swallowing among males having frequency of 55% and difficulty in speaking among females having a frequency of 67%

Among all of those associated problems mental retardation is the most common among both males and females with a frequency of 74% and 57% being seconded by visual or hearing problem among males with a frequency of 60% and seizures among females with a frequency of 37%.

Conclusion: There are a lot of sign and symptoms with which a cerebral palsy child can present but among those stiff or floppy muscle tone is the most common  being seconded by excessive drooling or difficulty in swallowing so if with the help of rehabilitation unit on board we can manage these as well as others we can change the perspective that Cerebral palsy child usually lives a miserable life.
